Math competitions have been a central part of my life as a student, coach, and father. After competing at National MATHCOUNTS for Team Indiana, I spent years teaching at Sycamore School and coaching hundreds of talented mathletes through school teams, national teams and camps. I’ve seen firsthand the transformative power of these programs—first as a student, then as an educator, and later as a parent cheering on my own son.

Math competitions played an important role in my children’s elementary and middle school years. Being challenged by competition math helped them develop not only as problem solvers but also as creative thinkers and as confident, determined learners - skills that have followed them into high school, college, and beyond. In my professional life, I work as a strategy consultant, with much of my focus in the education space. Through IMEI, I’m excited to bring these passions together by expanding access to high quality math opportunities and helping more students experience the challenge, joy, and growth that competition math can inspire.

Math education has been at the heart of my career for more than 35 years, teaching both middle and high school Indiana students. About 15 years ago, I discovered MATHCOUNTS and quickly saw the impact that competitive mathematics can have on students, not only in developing their mathematical skills, but also in building confidence, curiosity, perseverance, and a genuine excitement for problem solving. I believe all students should have access to challenging, engaging problem-solving experiences and competition platforms that encourage them to think critically, take intellectual risks, and discover just how much they are capable of.
